App languages

Which languages is the Whalik app designed to help you learn? No. 1

The “Learning language” and “Native language” fields offer a wide selection of languages following the ISO 639-1 standard. The app interface itself is translated into 12 languages: Russian, English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Ukrainian, Hindi, Japanese, Chinese. Your choice of learning language is independent of the interface language.

About AI generation quality for different languages. Cards are created by AI. For widely used languages (including those listed above) it usually produces good results. For less common languages the quality can vary, and we can’t guarantee it in advance. We recommend generating one or two trial decks in the chosen language first and evaluating the result — if something isn’t right, the deck can be regenerated with a refined topic or parameters.

Also: narration (TTS) relies on the Android system’s text-to-speech. Usually you don’t need to configure anything manually — Whalik picks a suitable engine and voice for the learning language from those available on the device. But for some languages, a suitable engine may not be available on a given device. In that case, the app will inform you with a dialog and offer to open voice settings, where you can choose a different engine or install a suitable one via the Google Play Store.
